My niece, Vanessa Cool, is graduating from high school this year and my gift to her is to show her that the possibilities in life are endless. If one puts their mind to something, there are simply no limitations to what a person can accomplish. And pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone as often as possible is the single best thing you can do for your soul. I cannot think of a greater gift to give my eldest niece than to take her to places between San Diego and the Arctic Circle that not many people have the chance to visit. We would like to invite you to join us on our 9000 mile journey to Alaska in my Porsche Macan S!
We will be departing from San Diego on July 16, and over the following 4 weeks we will be driving north through the western US states through Canada on the Alaskan Highway all the way into the Brooks Range of Alaska, north of the Arctic Circle. One may argue that it is not safe for a woman to travel into the Canadian Rockies and into Alaska, taking into consideration that there are limited resources, limited service areas, and limited pretty much everything, not to mention challenging roadways, grizzly bears and mosquitoes the size of hummingbirds! Yes, I understand the trials we will face regarding these obstacles and it is my intent to be fully prepared for and educated about most of what we will encounter along the way. Of course, there is always the unexpected stuff, and I am willing to face those challenges as well.
My life has not always been easy, and to give people a resource or an inspiration to encourage them to follow their dreams and to overcome their own obstacles would truly mean more to me than anything else. We will be contributing to the “I AM THAT GIRL” foundation, www.iamthatgirl.com. I AM THAT GIRL has sponsored over 2,000 young women, with 244 local chapters and reaches over 1 million followers online. Their mission is based on the notion that a girl's physical, emotional, and mental well-being is rooted in her self-worth, and we are living in an epidemic of self-doubt. I AM THAT GIRL helps girls to transform self-doubt into self-love by providing a safe space to connect and have honest conversations about things that matter. Every day, girls are bombarded with messages that attack what she is NOT and they work every day to help her love who SHE IS; to see that in herself and inspire that in others. By raising the standards for how girls treat themselves, each other, and the world. By building a community for girls to be seen, be heard, and belong, they give them something bigger than themselves to stand for and create a healthier, more powerful world.
